There were many reports in the 70,s and 80,s of people who were plagued by a continuous unidentifiable humming noise. Not everyone was able to hear it but there was a lot who witnessed it. It wasnt an internal sound as in tinnitus but a strong loud constant throbbing external sound. It was described by various people throughout britain as being like an idling lorry engine and seemed to increase in volume in the early hours, when most sources ie industrial machinery was closed down. The sunday mirror ran a story about this in 1978 after recieving about 800 letters from people looking for an explanation. People reported the noise gave them headaches/migranes. The sound only seemed to affect people in their place of residence as leaving their immediate area the noise faded or became non-exsistantuntil they returned. This was reported nationwide so rules out an individual suffering tinnitus. Other strange noises like booms and bangs were also heard at the time concorde was flying regular but these bangs were also heard when concorde wasnt flying and also there were earlier instances reported before concorde was even built to remove the theory it was the aircraft going supersonic. This phenomena was reported in Dorset, Hereford and Worcester, Monmouth, Gwent, West Sussex, so it wasnt localised. Each area seemed to be subject to this noise at different times to other regions each reporting the same phenomena but indeendantly of each other. This phenomena is also reported around the world from The Artic, to Australia, the USA, and USSR, its odd many people witness it while many of their neighbours experiance nothing. Natural phenomena was given as the official explanation but no evidence of its source was ever found.
