This is one experiment i have never seen succeed, but in experiments where it has been successful is it actually a communication with a spirit? Could the people taking part in the experiment round the table actually "create" their own ghost as was the case with the "Phillip" experiment in the mid seventies? The people round the table "creating" a presence that actually carries out the activity possibly through subconcious mental manipulation such as telekinesis?

this sounds a really interesting idea, could this work in the same way as if a group of people belived that a ghost was present or haunted a place, that they could be manifesting the strange goings on themselves?

Thats right as with the philip experiment a ghost and related phenomena was actually created through the minds of the people taking part, with table tilting i think a communal telekinesis energy coming from the participants could explain any positive results rather than spiritual manipulation, having said that ive never witnessed any success with this experiment but on the invests ive seen it done it was at the latter end when energies would be low, ive heard of good results being obtained from other people. Big C, I find it most interesting that the minds of the people taking part, with table tilting can think a communal telekinesis energy coming from the participants could explain any positive results rather than spiritual manipulation, to me this just gives sceptic people and answer for debate on the subject, and the fact that the film An American Haunting actually has a story line simular to this is astonishing, I would love to tell you the story line but I am not a spoiler.
For every person who is being haunted! whats to say they didnt create the energy themselves?
and on another note, I always got the impression that it had to be something that your average joe couldnt cope with in order for them to manifest an energy, for example abuse.

Table tilting cant really be relied upon as telekinesis obviously cant be ruled out, also with the physical contact involved can you be sure no one around the table is actually creating the movement? I dont see it as giving sceptics ammunition, the way to investigate any phenomena is with an open mind and a degree of sceptism otherwise every creak or crack would be passed off as a paranormal occurrence. With any suspected phenomena you have to rule out all the rational possibilities before considering if something is paranormal, believing everything to be paranormal in nature is as bad as being a closed minded sceptic, when we investigate, taking away the rational gives those same sceptics no cause to doubt our determination to carry out totally impartial investigations looking at things from both sides. As with the philip experiment an entity was created through the combined telekinetic energies of the group. Perhaps things paranormal exsist because we believe in them? Clinical tests have been carried out and have shown telekinetic abilities to exsist, so to create a ghost give it a name and a history would enhance this type of experiment with a group of people all concentrating their energies/thoughts collectively, visual manifestations are believed to happen as the spirit uses the physical energy from people or the energies from natural electrical fields, but there are other theories as to how a manifestation can become visual such as a projection from the subconscious mind through the minds eye, theres far too much research into various theories for anyone to say they definatley believe or disbelieve as many do without study.
